Description

Wm. Washington Seay House Listed on the National Historic Register. The historic homestead built between 1835-1845 offers the ambiance of an earlier time. Remarkable stone masonry are displayed in the gigantic chimneys, porch steps and foundation. Original faux-grain painting is also evident on much of the upstairs windows and doors. This too displays artistic craftsmanship of a bygone era. This grand house was built as an exact replica of a Louisiana plantation home visited and admired by Seay on visits to New Orleans. Frequent trips were made to that area by riverboat to sell the tobacco grown on the plantation. Artifacts found under the home's Summer Kitchen possibly reflect those visits to that area - whale rib-bone and harpoon.
