Event Details

Five projects will be presented at $5 a piece, and students/parents can decide how many they would like to make.

Gingerbread House Ornaments:
For this craft, students will use paint markers and acrylic paint to design a gingerbread house on a miniature terra cotta pot. Once they're finished painting, students will choose a piece of Christmas-themed ribbon and thread it through the pot's waterspout, tying a knot at the end to keep it in place. Images of gingerbread houses will be provided for inspiration.

Scrap Ribbon Tree Ornaments:
For this craft, students will choose 13-16 Christmas colored/pattern scraps of ribbon and tie them into large, loose knots onto a small stick which serves as the tree's trunk. Students will trim the ribbon into a Christmas tree shape, making the pieces at the top smallest and the pieces at the bottom largest. Students will tie a piece of twine to the tip of the stick for hanging, as well as glue a golden star to top the tree.

Snowflake Quilts:
For this craft, students will choose eight 4"x4" pieces and one 8.5"x8.5" piece of colored construction paper. Students will take one 4”x4” paper and fold it into a triangle 3 times. Then, students will cut shapes along all three sides of the folded triangle and unfold to find a beautiful snowflake pattern. Repeat with 3 more sheets of 4”x4” paper. Students will glue their uncut 4”x4” paper onto the 8.5"x8.5" paper, leaving a half inch border along every edge. Finally students will glue their snowflake paper on top of each solid square, creating a snowflake-inspired paper quilt.

Pop Up Christmas Tree Card:
For this craft, students will choose one sheet of A5 cardstock in their desired color and fold it into a card. Students will then accordion-fold an A5 sheet of green construction paper, flatten the fan into a strip, and cut it into five pieces: 1 cm, 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, and 5 cm. Students will glue these strips along the centerfold of the interior of the card from smallest to biggest, leaving space at the top and bottom. A golden star will be glued to the top, and brown strip of construction paper for a trunk at the bottom. When opened, the accordion folded paper will resemble a 3-D Christmas tree. Students will be encouraged
