The Lost Cause and the Legacy of the Confederacy tour will be led by Battle of Franklin Trust CEO Eric Jacobson.\
Tour Carnton with Battle of Franklin Trust CEO Eric A. Jacobson and learn about the Lost Cause, a movement that was launched in the latter part of the 19th century to sanitize the American Civil War, make all Confederate soldiers heroic, minimize African slavery, and point the blame at Abraham Lincoln and the Northern war effort. You will also learn from Jacobson how the past decade has led to a reckoning of the Confederacy, how Confederate iconography has been questioned, and how the legacy of the Confederacy is being challenged in ways it has not been since the conclusion of the war. Jacobson will also provide firsthand knowledge of how the interpretive landscape is changing as a result of his experiences at Carnton, the Carter House, and Rippavilla over the last 15 years.
This tour is a must to understand the current landscape of the Civil War, antebellum, and Reconstruction history. It is not appropriate for children under the age of 10.
Tickets must be purchased 48 hours in advance, 2 person minimum, and a copy of Eric Jacobson's book For Cause & For Country will be included with purchase. Tour is offered Wednesday and Friday at 10am.
